In the early 2000s, the inkjet printer market experienced a boom in demand for personal printers, from single-function printers to MFPs (Multi-Function Printers) that combined scanning, copying and printing. The CIS (Contact Image Sensor) method, which incorporated the SELFOCTM Lens Array (SLA) and was used in the scanning function of MFPs, enabled a reduction in printer size and thus became a widely used technology. In 2004, in response to the growing demand for SLA, the company greatly increased its production capacity at the Sagamihara Plant and Suzhou NSG Electronics. With demand for SLA for use in MFPs continuing to grow, the company stepped up production further.
