Kobe earthquake

News article on the Kobe earthquake damages (Asahi Shimbun, January 18, 1995)

On 17 January 1995, Kobe was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3, causing serious damage across much of the Kansai region, including Hyogo prefecture and the Osaka area. 6,434 people were killed, 43,792 injured, and 3 people remain missing. NSG launched active efforts to assist in the reconstruction of the affected area. It offered its company housing site in Nishinomiya for the construction of temporary housing, and allocated around 100 people to a workforce to replace broken glass in the affected area. The company also augmented its supply system by boosting production at its Maizuru and Chiba plants, allowing it to supply glass as part of its contribution to the reconstruction effort.
