The AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) separator, a paper-like glass microfiber with a diameter of less than 1 micron, is used as a separator in VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) “maintenance-free” batteries. Having developed this product jointly with paper manufacturers in 1976, the company then established its own papermaking facility at the Yokkaichi Plant and began commercial production in 1983. The AGM Separator is now produced at the Tarui Plant in Gifu Prefecture and in Tianjin in China, and is used in VRLA batteries for automotive and industrial use.
