Establishment of Sagamihara Works

Opening ceremony of the Sagamihara Works

At this time, the Kawasaki Plant manufactured key optical technology SELFOC™ products and also served as a hub for the experimental development of transparent conductive glass. However, as operations expanded, the plant became too small, and it was necessary to establish a new hub. The company bought a large pre-built site in Sagamihara, Kanagawa prefecture. In July 1980, this was inaugurated as the Sagamihara Works of the Kawasaki Plant (now the Sagamihara Plant). Production of the SELFOC™ Lens Array (SLA) and transparent conductive glass began in February the following year. The Sagamihara Plant now meets various needs as a key hub for information and electronics operations, and is also a home to NSG’s R&D function in Japan.
