“Glasscord” became popular as a reinforcement material for tires in the US during the 1960s. Later it was primarily used as a reinforcement material for timing belts in cars and Nippon Glass Fiber Co., Ltd. (now the Technical Glass business) transitioned to development, specifically focused on timing belts. In 1975, Glasscord with a chloroprene rubber coating on the glass fiber was released. 1983 saw the development of H-NBR Glasscord, with increased heat resistance. The company went on to develop a range of products, such as High Tensile Glasscord with improved durability in 1986, and Belt in Oil Glasscord in 2007. Today, with production in Japan, Europe, the US and China, NSG is the world’s leading glass cord manufacturer, supplying products for both automotive and industrial belts.
