2002

Economic collapse

Reminiscent of 1989 and due to a domestic market collapse through lack of demand, the factory was forced to recycle glass for 15 days. To avoid shut-down, the glass that emerged from the line was broken and re-used as raw material. New packaging methods were adopted to satisfy the demands of foreign markets. As a result, exports climbed to unprecedented heights and VASA one again survived the country’s economic crisis.
Another important milestone achieved during this year was the OHSAS 18001 certification for Health and Safety at work, two priority topics for VASA.
