As Japan entered a period of high economic growth in late 1950s, 40% of domestic demand for sheet glass came from Tokyo and surrounding regions (Kanto) in Eastern Japan where NSG had no manufacturing plants. In March 1962, NSG decided to build its fourth plant in Anegasaki, Chiba Prefecture, and began construction in October of the following year.
The Chiba Plant was dedicated in July 1964 and started production in August. NSG President Itsuro Watanabe expressed his joy by handwriting on the completed sheet glass in Japanese calligraphy – “Our goal to expand into the Kanto area has been achieved.”
