Launch of heat-absorbing glass

In early 1940s, the use of heat-absorbing window glass was becoming common in Europe and the U.S. to improve the efficiency of air conditioning. In 1953, NSG began development of a heat-absorbing glass called “BLUEPANE” and in March 1956, succeeded in producing this glass for the first time in Japan at the Yokkaichi Plant.
Sales of this glass began the following month. BLUEPANE is a pale blue glass with a special chemical structure that significantly absorbs the sun’s radiant heat to increase efficiency of indoor cooling systems. After that, the Company developed “GREENPANE™ and other beautifully-colored and heat-absorbing glass to meet the diverse needs of customers.
