First production of insulating glass units

Receiving technical training at LOF

Advances in building technologies increased the need for large windows that were not easily affected by temperature changes. To improve insulation, the first insulating glass units called “THERMOPANE” had been introduced in 1937 by Libbey-Owens-Ford in the United States. Under the technology transfer contract with LOF, NSG’s Maizuru Plant began producing the insulating glass units in 1955, making an industry-wide impact. Initially marketed as MULTILITE™, NSG’s insulating glass units was renamed PAIRMULTI™ in 1997.
