Established in June 1934 by Kozo Kagami, Kagami Crystal Manufacturing built Japan’s first crystal glass manufacturing plant. Having received awards at the World Expos in Paris and New York, Kagami was beginning to increase its brand recognition. Although its plant burned down in April 1945 before the War’s end, production was resumed in September 1946 and the company was incorporated in 1948.
In 1950, NSG acquired a capital stake in Kagami Crystal and became involved in its management during the 1960s. Renamed to Kagami Crystal Co., Ltd., in 1985, the company has been a supplier of high-quality crystal products to the Imperial Household and Japanese embassies around the world.
