First increase in capital and manufacturing capacity

Around 1925, domestic demand continued to rise but the company’s manufacturing efficiency could not be improved further and there was a need to invest in manufacturing facilities. Although the company director Oya and plant manager Oishi approached Libbey Owens for additional funds, the request was turned down due to concerns over competition from Belgium. However, Oishi and others were able to persuade Sumitomo Corporation to fund a capital increase of one million yen. With this, the company tripled its manufacturing capacity by building a new facility to process frosted glass and by remodeling a furnace to incorporate two plate-making devices.
